Export Award of Distinction

 

The Export Award of Distinction is given to the organization that has demonstrated outstanding achievement in exporting products or services outside of Canada’s borders.

You may provide brief answers in this online form and submit it electronically. You may also print this form out, answer the questions with more detail and send samples or other supporting documents, if you wish.

If you would like to nominate a business or organization just give us the name of the business, a contact name and phone number or email address and we will contact them and ask them to provide all the details for the application.

General Eligibility Requirements

To be a valid entry in the Alberta Business Awards of Distinction, the business must:

  • have operated in Alberta for a minimum of three years;

  • be operating in Alberta at the time of the Awards presentation;

  • employ Albertans to produce goods and/or provide services;

  • not have won the Export Award of Distinction in the past three years; and

  • not have anyone in its management, on its board or in its employ serving on the judging committee for the Export Award of Distinction.

 

Specific Eligibility

In addition to the General Eligibility, applicants must meet the following specific requirements. To begin your application process, please provide details for each requirement as it relates to your organization in the space provided.

 

1. have exported products, services or technologies that have Alberta content or Alberta value-added contribution;

2. have employed an innovative and or creative market entry strategy; and

3. have made increases in exports over the past three years,or maintained their position in export markets during difficult economic times – either for the company or in their geographic or industry-specific market.

Applicants will be judged on the quality and degree of creativity and innovation of their export strategy, as well as on the increases in export sales.

If chosen as a finalist, I agree to allow the use of my business profile and photographs for publicity by the Alberta Business Awards of Distinction,  the Alberta Chambers of Commerce and Alberta Employment and Immigration.

Submitter Information

Complete the following in detail:

1. Provide a synopsis of your export plan explaining (do not provide a copy of the whole plan):

  • why your company exports;
  • your market entry strategy into your current markets AND any markets you are planning to enter in the next two years; and
  • your export growth strategy.

2. What products, services or technologies does your organization export?

3. Where does your organization export (current export markets)?

4. List your export sales for the past three fiscal years. What is the proportion of export sales relative to total sales over the past three years (ratio of export sales to total sales)?

5. Have you begun to export to new/different geographic markets in the past three years? Where? Why?

6. Have you introduced products, services or technologies into export markets that you previously did not export (they may be brand new)? Please describe what and why.

7. Have you entered into any partnership or agreement with other companies to enter your target market(s)?

8. How have you changed the way you do business domestically to be successful internationally?

9. What are you doing to remain competitive in the export markets you are in?

10. What has been the biggest challenge for your organization in exporting? How was it overcome?

11. Why do you feel your company is a good candidate for this award?

Premier's Award of Distinction

Finalists in all award categories are eligible for the Premier’s Award of Distinction and must complete the form fields below with this specific category entry application to be eligible for the Premier’s Award.

Sponsored by Alberta Employment and Immigration, this prestigious award is presented to an Alberta firm that:

  • embodies the Alberta Advantage,
  • exhibits overall outstanding achievement and leadership in Alberta, and
  • demonstrates ongoing, consistent involvement in community events and organizations locally and/or provincially.

The winner will be announced to media across the province and will be presented with a special award at the Gala Banquet.

Entry Deadline:

In order to be eligible, your submission must be delivered to the Alberta
Chambers of Commerce office no later than 4:00 p.m., November 12, 2010.

Due to the number of entries received, entry packages cannot be returned.
