Aboriginal Relations - Best Practice Award of Distinction

 

The Aboriginal Relations – Best Practice Award of Distinction is given to a non-Aboriginal business that demonstrates outstanding achievements in Aboriginal relations, including economic development, employment and training, and Aboriginal community support.

This award recognizes a non-Aboriginal business that best links these pillars and is recognized by the Aboriginal community as such.  Applicants are encouraged to provide examples of best practices that illustrate ongoing commitment and continual improvement in this endeavour.

You may provide brief answers in this online form and submit it electronically. You may also print this form out, answer the questions with more detail and send samples or other supporting documents, if you wish.

General Eligibility Requirements

To be a valid entry in the Alberta Business Awards of Distinction, your business must:

  • have operated in Alberta for a minimum of three years;
  • be operating in Alberta and continue to do so at the time of the awards presentation;
  • employ Albertans to produce goods and/or provide services;
  • not have won in the same category in the past three years; and not have anyone in your management, on your board, or in your employ serving on the Alberta Business Awards of Distinction judging committee for this category.

Specific Eligibility Requirements

In addition to the General Eligibility, applicants must meet the following specific requirements. To begin your application process, please provide details for each requirement as it relates to your organization in the space provided.

1. have incorporated the concepts of Aboriginal relations, including economic development, employment and training, and community support into their operations and can demonstrate the value-added benefits; and

2. have implemented the Best Practices in at least one Alberta community.

1. Overview:

Provide a brief description of your company(s) operations, products and/or service(s), the community(s) in which you operate; the history of your company’s relationship with Aboriginal peoples and communities, including why your company has committed to effective Aboriginal relations.

2. State your company’s commitment, activities, and results in:

    • Aboriginal economic development
    • Aboriginal employment and training
    • Aboriginal community support

3. Recognition of the Aboriginal Relations - Best Practice

How your company has implemented Aboriginal relations in at least one Alberta community, and the results achieved for the company and the community.

Provide any additional information that you think might help us evaluate your submission.

Premier's Award of Distinction

Finalists in all award categories are eligible for the Premier’s Award of Distinction and must complete the form fields below with this specific category entry application to be eligible for the Premier’s Award.

Sponsored by Alberta Employment and Immigration, this prestigious award is presented to an Alberta firm that:

  • embodies the Alberta Advantage,
  • exhibits overall outstanding achievement and leadership in Alberta, and
  • demonstrates ongoing, consistent involvement in community events and organizations locally and/or provincially.

The winner will be announced to media across the province and will be presented with a special award at the Gala Banquet.

Note: you must submit this application in order for your company to be judged for the Premier's Award of Distinction.

Entry Deadline:

In order to be eligible, your submission must be delivered to the Alberta
Chambers of Commerce office no later than 4:00 p.m., November 12, 2010.

Due to the number of entries received, entry packages cannot be returned.
